40 years ago today Apollo 11 lifted off for the first moon landing

40 years ago today I was a small boy, too young to know any better, but nonetheless caught up in the broohaha around the mission.

40 years ago marked the beginning of my love affair with science - with the magic of what science reveals and what we can do with it.

I've never been clear whether it was the fact of the trip to the moon or whether it was the fact of everyone else being excited about it, too.

I beginning to realise it was probably the latter....
